Description

This week witnessed a rare event when planet Venus glided through The Pleiades star cluster. This event happens once every 8 years. Luckily, I was able to capture the event as it unfolded on April 2nd and April 3rd. This is the picture taken on April 3rd and it shows Venus almost in the middle of The Pleiades.

I have been planning for this picture for three months. In order to get these pictures, I first took a large set of long exposures (63 pictures x 120 sec + 119 pictures x180 sec ) for The Pleiades and the surrounding star field on Feb 17,18,22, and 24.. On April 3rd, I took a sequence of short exposures (30 x 5 sec each) to capture Venus and enough stars of The Pleiades cluster. The picture shown here is the results of stacking the two sets together.
